Family Literacy Week Supporting Literacy at Home.   January 26 - February 2, 2020

 

Why read with Younger Children

  • Read books and nursery rhymes aloud together
  • Talk daily about home and community life
  • Sing, draw and tell stories

 

Older Children

  • Play word games
  • Point out interesting or unfamiliar words
  • Ask questions before, during or after reading

Reading helps to develop the Core Competencies

  • Read and discuss books in your first language together
  • Keep first language print material in your home s books, greeting cards, magazines, and newspaper
