Spring 2026

What targeted actions did we take to address our school’s learning focus?Teachers created lessons with the support of a district consultant to focus on enhancing skills in reading comprehension, inferencing and understanding main ideas. Learning Resource teachers also provided additional reading comprehension skill development to support individual students and small groups of students.
What gap or problem were these actions intended to address? Why was this particular strategy/action chosen?

Our baseline data from the past two years of FSA results identified a need to focus on improving literacy skills in our students.  An analysis of the Fall SPARK and RFRA data further demonstrated a need to focus specifically on strengthening reading comprehension skills.

These actions that have been taken have aimed at improving these skills to enhance literacy proficiency in our students.

What does the evidence tell us so far?Looking at our Spring reading assessment data in comparison with our Fall, we can see that students are gaining skills in inferencing. In the Fall, 51% of students were emerging or developing in their ability to inference meaning in their reading. In the Spring, that number improved with a positive change to 39%. Similarly, 61% of students were emerging or developing in their ability to make connections in the Fall and this number improved with a shift to 56% for the Spring assessment.
To what extent are the actions making a difference? This data shows that a focus on skill development can spark growth in student abilities and move students from emerging and developing into proficient. It also helps us understand what we need to focus to best support students. Students will become stronger readers with teachers using data to guide their teaching.
How will we move forward accordingly? We need to dig deeper into our data to discover more about our learners and to look for specific ways to promote even greater growth in students. Going forward, we will narrow our focus to a more specific group of students and implemented targeted strategies to support their literacy development.
