Our amazing STEAM HUB

Because we are curious to see if engaging students in different ways helps deepen student learning and engagement, we need to ensure that we are providing our students with inspiring spaces in which to learn, and engaging materials that will encourage creativity.

Good news…. our teacher-librarian, Ms. Johnson, and our grade 4/5 teacher, Ms. Inniger have worked for the past two years to develop a space that fits the bill!  They have accessed funds through generous donations by our PAC and through District Innovation Grants and have transformed what was once a computer lab into our STEAM HUB.  This is a bookable space where teachers can use the materials that have been carefully procured to engage students. Staff spent a Professional Development Day learning all about the materials in the STEAM HUB, and how they were all connected to both our learning and core competency goals.

It is amazing to see the students at work in the STEAM HUB.  Throughout April, our grade 4/5 students examined rocks and minerals with Mr. Wu.   Leadership students worked on a video in our sound booth for our Earth Day Assembly. Kindergarten Students created Lego Worlds on our Lego wall and learned all about perseverance as they attempted to build a domino train. Buddy classes have learned origami and crochet, and this is just the beginning!

We are so excited about the potential learning that will happen in our STEAM HUB in the coming months. Our hunch is that having this space will help deepen student learning, and simply by observing our students as they explore in the STEAM HUB, we can be confident that this space encourages student engagement.
